Visit to the hospital at night-time

A few hours ago I went to the boramae medical center close to Silim station. My right eye was hurting and my eye lid was inflamed. Thus, I went to the hospital. The cab drive (one way) cost 5640 won from Nokdo to the hospital at 1 am. Since I was not sure if the staff of the hospital can speak English, I prepared a paper beforehand.

Luckily, most staffs were fluent in English. Even a nurse had a small booklet in her pocket with English terms. At the reception in the emergency department, I had to give them my personal data (name, phone number, address) and the guy behind the desk checked my alien registration card. Since Korean hospital only accept Korean insurance, I had to pay 65000 won for a medical check-up at the boramae medical center. Hence it is important that my receipt was in English and that my name (written in English) and my date of birth were also on this receipt in order to get the money back from my travel insurance in Germany.

Wristband of the visitto the hospital.

Firstly, the nurse measured body temperature and my pulse. Later I had a short talk wit the emergency doctor who send me to an eye specialist. I was transported via a wheelchair, even though I told the male nurse that I can walk. The eye specialist was a young female doctor hiding behind a book. She did not talk much, but her English was quite good. However, she was a little brutal during the treatment.

After seeing her, I was send back to the emergency reception desk, where I had to pay the consultation fee and the medicine fee. In total I paid 91250 won for the emergency visit at night-time.

Receipt.

I received the antibiotic creme at the B1-floor at the pharmacy. Then I took the cab back to Nokdu. I spend 3 hours and 20 minutes at the  boramae medical center overall. Most of the time I had to wait. But the staffs seemed to be competent and kind to foreigners.

Let it snow

Last night (07.12.-08.12.2014) it snowed in Seoul, but it was not the first time in this Christmas season. It snowed the first time at the end of November. I was not well prepared for -3°C. Hence, I caught a cold. I just wanted to show you how the SNU campus, when snow has covered the grounds and the roofs.

Recommendation of a few non-alcohlic beverages

As everyone knows, Korea is a drinking nation. In other words, people drink more than they eat, but do not misunderstand me. They do not just drink Soju and Makgeolli. When I went to the supermarket the first time and I wanted to drink an non-alcoholic beverage, it took me a long time to decide. Why? Simply because of the huge variety of non-alcoholic beverages they offer here. And there was another issue: the language. Most non-alcoholic beverages are from "Lotte"or from the "Nestlé".

There are even beverage automats on the streets and at the stations. They only sell non-alcoholic beverages.

I need to admit that I have not try all non-alcoholic beverages, since they are very sugary. But I wanted to introduce you to a few one.

You can always grab a coffee or a coffee-like drink (e.g. cappuccino). Those beverages end with "커피". They are quite cheap in convenient stores (1200-2000 won). They taste good, but they are bad for a diet.

Then there are milk drink you can find in cans or in small typical paper packages. The one in the can has even some parts of a cookie in it.

Daniel tried the fruity beverages. However, Coconut does not taste like coconut. It tasted like the gummi bears from "Haribo". I liked the grape drink because that one did not taste so artificial.

Since people love drinking alcoholic drinks here and never think about the consequences (e.g. hangover). I advice you to buy certain non-alcoholic drink at home. They are quite useful and handy. When your body is weak or you don't feel well, you need to drink the following.
Two vitamin-drinks and a pine bud drink, 1.

Koreans usually drink this following bottle from "HealthCare" after a hangover.

Hangover drink.

The left bottle is from a famous brand, but the bottle in the middle taste similar. I get the bottle in the middle from the convenient store in the cafeteria or in the student center for 800 won. The right bottle is the pine bud drink. It has a unique taste. Daniel and I like to drink it occasionally.

In the convenient stores there are a few types of teas in the fridge. It is always great to be tolerate towards new things, but when it is about tea I prefer those, which I know are tasty. As you can see on the picture below, I chose cold green tea. The others drank some wheat tea, which many Koreans bought. However, none of us is used to this wheat taste.

Kpop dance

As many young Koreans have the dream to become kpop-stars, there are many youtube-videos showing kpop-dances. Ligaya and I wanted to take the chance to learn a kpop-dance. To be honest, when can we dance a kpop dance again?! However, it has to be a dance, which we both like. Sugar-free from T-ara was too difficult for us. Regarding to the video of "Mo' Better Dance", it had some dance elements of the usual girl dance, of Gangnam style and some elements of street dance.

Because of the short time period, we have chosen the song "Mama" from Exo-K. There was a good tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXZe-Q9gwKU
